Mirabella plums are a fruit that stands somewhat in the background. It is not one of the most popular fruits. It’s a pity, because they really have a lot of health benefits. They can bring benefits to those who are interested in heart health, but also to people who suffer from diabetes. But they can be enjoyed by anyone and in many ways.
The season will start soon
Mirabelle season is just around the corner – it runs from July to September – but it’s worth reminding yourself of all the benefits of eating these fruits now. Known for their delicate, slightly sour-sweet flavour, these small yellow plums are a rich source of vitamins and minerals. They contain vitamins C and A, potassium, magnesium, iron and fibre, making them a valuable part of the daily diet.
Give your body health from nature
Consuming mirabelles can boost the immune system, as well as digestion and eyesight. It is a fruit that helps maintain healthy joints and bones. Due to its high potassium content , mirabelles can regulate blood pressure, reducing the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease. In addition, the fiber provides a feeling of satiety, which helps maintain a healthy weight.
Mirabelle plums are a natural source of antioxidants, compounds that protect our cells from damage caused by oxidative stress. They help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as certain cancers. Finally, their high natural carbohydrate content makes them a quick source of energy, ideal for recharging your batteries during the day or before physical activity.
How to consume them
In my opinion, mirabelles are best fresh. You can enjoy them as a healthy snack on their own. I like to add them to cottage cheese mixed with yogurt. Sometimes I add oatmeal, sometimes coconut. This way I use them as a snack or breakfast.
But mirabelles can also be used as an addition to fruit jam and of course they can be preserved and used later as a compote. Like classic plums and other types of fruit, mirabelles can also be dried. If you like dried fruit, don’t hesitate. For me, the fruit is too sweet in this form, but my daughter loves dried fruit.

Mirabella, a small, round fruit with golden hues, originates from Asia Minor and China, where it has been prized since ancient times. It came to Europe in the context of trade in the Middle Ages, especially via the Silk Road. These routes linked East and West and allowed it to travel. In France, the mirabelle was brought to Lorraine by Duke René d’Anjou.
It became an established symbol of the region and remains its pride to this day. Renowned for its exceptional taste and aroma, it quickly gained popularity among the local population and soon became a symbol of the region’s agricultural heritage. Over time, its cultivation spread to other parts of Europe, including Germany, where it is celebrated as a prized fruit in Alsace.
