Living in a house with a garden has advantages. A garden offers the opportunity to grow your own fruit and vegetables. Nowadays, this is a wonderful solution. It’s not about the money, as when you add up all the costs of growing and the time you spend on the garden, it might work out cheaper to buy everything in the shop. But only from the garden can you be sure of the origin and quality. The good news for those who live in an apartment is that some fruits and vegetables can be grown in pots.

Growing in pots

Of course, you can’t grow everything in your apartment, but you can grow, for example, mignonette. Previously, this idea seemed unfeasible. However, with just a few precautions, your balcony or a small corner of your apartment can be transformed into an oasis of greenery and a place that will give you tasty fruits.

An unpretentious plant

The geranium is an undemanding fruit tree and is easy to grow. The trees are hardy and don’t mind the sun. However, on hot days it is better to protect them from the sun. It is also advisable to be careful of possible late frosts. However, the tree should be sufficiently protected against the wall.

Where to buy a suitable tree

Mischief trees are available in garden centres, but it is better to find a specialist nursery that offers several varieties. For the home, you should ideally choose a grafted tree on a dwarf, semi-dwarf or semi-dominant rootstock. If you choose a container-grown tree, you can plant it at any time. However, the best time to plant is from autumn to spring. For container-grown plants, it is a good idea to water thoroughly or soak the tree in a bucket of water before planting.

How to take care of a mouse

Although it is an undemanding tree, it requires more control in the pot. Temperature, humidity and nutrition need to be monitored. The tree needs light, but if it is possible to find partial shade on hot days, this will be better for the mishpoule. Otherwise you risk burning the leaves.

We also recommend choosing a suitable pot. A light ceramic pot is ideal. This absorbs less heat and thus protects the roots. This prevents heat stress. Watering is also important. Remember that water evaporates quickly from the pot on the balcony.

The soil should always be slightly moist, but not waterlogged. “I recommend using mulch, as it retains moisture for longer,” advises gardener Radek Mašín on growing potted mixtures. Fertilisation is also important, he says. He recommends liquid biofertilisers. They should be used once every two weeks.

Other tips for growing

You may feel that you have already given the plant enough care. However, if you want to give the best to the moss, also clean its leaves regularly and check the drainage. It is also a good idea to rotate the pot regularly. This will make the tree grow more evenly.
